Locksmith & Passionate MC: UOT's Next To Make It

Posted by Underground On Top on July 1, 2014 at 4:10 AM Comments comments (0)

Many of us music fans, especially hip hop fans, have dedicated our support to Underground and Independent artists. Because it is not hard to realize that more talent stays trapped underground than any mainstream artist that they put out on todays radio.

The question is, who will be the next to make it out of the Underground? With independent labels such as Strange Music and Funk Volume proving that you do not have to be signed to a major label in order to be successful with your music career the road to success is now open for anyone capable of taking its journey.

One artist that comes to mind is, Bay area known rapper, Locksmith, who has already gained mainstream exposure dating back to 2003. Due to the industry, however, he has not fully gained the regonition that he has deserved. Already considered a legend by some, Locksmith continues to prove why he is one of the best, recently taking part in Mission Underground Cyphers hosted by TeamBackPack with A-1 and Anilyst.

LISTEN HERE: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jxWjC3_JD54

Locksmith recently just released a video for his track, "Free" (feat. Rebecca Nobel), off of his album, "A Thousand Cuts", now available everywhere.

Watch Here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Z5IZkx9Afs&feature=youtu.be

Another artist that comes to mind when we think success is, Cranston, Rhode Island rapper, Passionate MC. Passionate MC has been deemed the Cypher King recently by Underground On Top. Since he appreared on, Lunch Time Cypher, off of Hopsin's latest album, "Knock Madness", he has not looked back. Making his way city to city demolishing any beat he touches.

Listen Here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NA5dGh-oOKo

Passionate MC will be featured in the Underground On Top Cypher set to release in early July. He also has a new single off his album, ""Passion: The Force Within", dropping on July 16th.

Underground On Top believes it is only a matter of time before we have another Tech N9ne or Hopsin making it out. Locksmith and Passionate MC are right below the surface waiting for the perfect opportunity to really make it big. Until then, it is up to us, as fans, to support them and help them on their journey. One day, they may even work together, only time will tell.

Review: Doughphresh Da Don - All Disrespect Intended Vol. 1

Posted by Underground On Top on May 2, 2013 at 2:25 PM Comments comments (0)

.

All Disrespect Intended Vol. 1 is a quality sounding tape with unique production techniques while incorporating what we call "The DJ feel" into each track. There is no doubt that Doughphresh Da Don is a talented MC and a well rounded Artist. Tracks like, "You Me" earned themselves perfect ratings from UOT as well as several other near perfect rated tracks. A solid listen from beginning to end that only gets better as the tape plays through.

.

Doughphresh Da Don receives The Golden Mic from Underground On Top for diversity in production, outstanding flow and delivery, a lyrical genius as good as anyone, and for bringing something new to the table. Doughphresh has the ability to take any track and sample it to make it his own. A talent that not many artists can master. He is surely on his way in the game we call Hip Hop. Do not get caught sleeping on him.

All Disrespect Intended Vol. 1 starts out with a lyrical assination as Doughphresh Da Don rips through the beat which will, if anything, get you warmed up for what looks to be a promising tape.

COMMENTS

Doughphresh Da Don  comes out reppin for his city in "Welcome 2 My City" bringing  a strong, catchy, hook, that creates an easy listen for the ears. Lyrical genius above par with clever metaphors and complex rhyme schemes. A solid track throughout that will be one to motivate anyone trying to hold it down for their spot. Solid track with a unique production style that will have you feeling like you are in the club listening to the DJ spin.

COMMENTS

A near perfect track, "Otis Freestyle" , takes a popular instrumental and turns it into a lyrical slaughter freestyle by Doughphresh Da Don. Taking the production and turning it into his own, Doughphresh Da Don, took this one and made it sound relevant again. Hard spitting and crazy flow has this one landing a high score with UOT.

.

5. Don't Get It Twisted featuring Da Blaccat Jaqua (produced by Phayce Money)

Content/Hook - 8/10

Lyrical Genius - 8/10

Flow/Delivery - 8/10

Production- 8/10

COMMENTS

Well rounded track all the way through, "Don't Get It Twisted" earns a B-Rated score from UOT. Complexity and clever word play kept us in-tuned throughout. A decent track feature makes it flow along nicely but Da Blaccat Jaqua's flow felt soft at times which made for a somewhat distracting listen.

7. So Kleen featuring Yung Sass, Da Blaccat Jaqua (produced by Beatboxerz)

Lyrical Genius - 8/10

Flow/Delivery - 8/10

Production- 8/10

COMMENTS

"So Kleen" brings you that banger music. The track features landed a little better with UOT this time but the track became a little repetitive. It is a solid listen but it was not a rememberable track for us. None the less there is a fan base for this style of song who will really like it so we did not mark down the ratings to low because we understand everyone has their own flavor of music. Consistent flows and a nice delivery are once again on point throughout the track. One that you will just have to listen to and decide for yourself.

.

8. Hood Rich (produced by Bravestarr)

Content/Hook - 10/10

Lyrical Genius - 8/10

Flow/Delivery - 8/10

Production- 9/10

COMMENTS

"Hood Rich" was a fun listen to us. It is a hard hitting track, that hype music, turn this one up and hit repeat. At times the flow landed short with us but none the less it is a good one. Simplicity at its best. UOT hoped for more structure in the 2nd verse with a little more creativity in the rhyme scheme.

10. Royalty featuring Supreme R.A. , Freeze B.K.A. Cold Magik, Kevlen X

Lyrical Genius - 9/10

Flow/Delivery - 9/10

Production- 9/10

COMMENTS

Original is a perfect word to describe "Royalty". The old school hip hop mixed with the sounds of a DJ mixing type vibe has this one hitting near perfect on our rating scales. Our team here at UOT agreed that this can go on to be a fan favorite with the right exposure. Strong features on the track once again makes this a slapper for the common Hip Hop head. A strong lyrical presence with a solid delivery and flow and as always a good hook. "If yall consider them the shit then I'm the plunger" Easily the best quote on the tape.

.

11. I Get It N (produced by LoveleMusiq)

Content/Hook - 10/10

Lyrical Genius - 8/10

Flow/Delivery - 8/10

Production- 8/10

COMMENTS

When the beat drops you will instantly be pulled right into "I Get It N" as Doughphresh Da Don shows off his diverse style and change of flow which we rather enjoyed. Bringing real Hip Hop to the table with memorizing punch lines giving this one a solid rating. "I said I aint Vietnamese bitch, I don't eat cat" Doughphresh is a fool, the more we listen the bigger the fan we become. If you have made it this far in the tape we are sure you feel the same.

13. You Me (produced by Pusher Productions)

Lyrical Genius - 10/10

Flow/Delivery - 10/10

Production- 10/10

COMMENTS

"You Me" brings out the raw emotions of Doughphresh Da Don showing how heartfelt of an Artist he can truly be. Taking an oldies track and vibe and turning it into a relevant listen. It is a fact that If your heart is not in it then the music will fall off. Doughphresh carries himself as a veteran in this Underground world who needs his chance to shine. A track that could easily be a hit single.

.

14. Throw Em' To The Wolves featuring Da Blaccat Jaqua, Supreme R.A., Yung Sass, Freeze

.

Content/Hook - 8/10

Lyrical Genius - 8/10

Flow/Delivery - 8/10

Production- 7/10

COMMENTS

"Throw Em' To The Wolves" started out slow for us. The first verse was hard to hear and understand, turn the beat down and the vocals up. Punctuation needed cleaned up but mid-way through the second verse the track began to pick up and ended up being a solid song. The only problem is keeping the listener around long enough to get to the second/third verse. A track that does deserve a full listen to play It all the way through.

COMMENTS

It is official that  All Disrespect Intended Vol. 1 has something on it for every kind of hip hop lover. The mixed styles of production will land a different kind of fan with each and every track. Put Doughphresh was put on the right Underground radio he easily take it over with  "It's All Over" A great listen with solid track features.

"Tony Montana Freestyle" is a dope freestyle with the lyrical bars to stand tall with any artist. There is not to say about this one except it was great and for you aspiring artists, take notes.

COMMENTS

Another near perfect track with another great oldie being sampled. The feel good vibe and first verse instantly pulled us into this one. As we near the end, All Disrespect Intended Vol. 1, continues to show off that it is diverse as any great tape. Clever metaphors and creative multi-syllable rhymes makes this one a must listen.

.

COMMENTS

"Run These Streetz" ends All Disrespect Intended Vol. 1 on a positive note. A solid track with another unique production scheme that makes this one, Doughphresh Da Don's own. Hip Hop at its finest, "Stop and Stare" brings you realness and a vibe that rap has been lacking recently. A solid track with the lyricism skills of Hitman being shown off once again.
