Full Review: The "Hello, Nice To Meet You" EP - By Diverge

Posted by Underground On Top on August 22, 2016 at 7:40 PM Comments comments (0)

.

Generic Freestyle Intro: "Hello, Nice To Meet You" starts out exacty like it says, with a generic freestyle! But this one was actually entertaining! Diverge starts the EP off giving listeners a taste of bars. The beat choice will also catch your ear giving multiple things to enjoy.

.

Trunk Muzik Ft. E'The Rapper: Starts out with a banger beat. Something that hip hop heads can really turn up to.

The track features underground artist E'The Rapper, who takes the track in a whole different direction with his double time, really taking control of the song.

Overall the track was catchy & fun. Something worth checking out.

.

Smoke & Fly: This isn't your regular "smoking weed anthem". This one actually comes with a position message with a stance against drinking and driving.

Creative track that we can really appreciate. Chill out with this one! Just the feel good vibe you need.

.

Don't Care No More: Starts out with amazing vocals that turn into the first verse from Diverge.

This is one that most everybody can relate to. Any one who has lost friends & loved ones etc. for what ever reason should give it a listen!

Diverge does a solid job riding the beat. The harmonizing will keep you drawn in.

.

Voices: The EP closes out with "Voices". This one has an interesting approach to it. One that you will really want to pay close attention to, word for word.

The build up to the hook was on point. Overall the track finishes the EP on a strong note with a feature that compliments Diverge nicely.

Album Review: Juggernauts by RE: Verse (Massaka & Ayok)

Posted by Underground On Top on February 15, 2016 at 5:15 PM Comments comments (0)

.
"Juggernauts" is a well rounded album that UOT highly recommends checking out. If you are into bars and punchlines this is the right album for you. However the album is not limited to just bars. Throughout it you will come across solid story telling tracks such as, "Lost & Found" & "Nightmares", as well as tracks like, "Adrenaline", where the artists are just going in showing off their lyrical talent.
.
Was the album perfect? No, of course not. Not many are these days but this album shows the potential of two artists who are surely on their way. "Juggernauts" is diverse, it makes you think, and it has a little bit of something for all types of hip hop fans. Key features really helped shape it into a solid project with appearances from the Grind Mode affliates and artists like Ree Dot Ma who blew us away. UOT rates this one an 8 out of 10! Make sure to pick it up!

.
Juggernauts -  The rap duo wastes no time getting things jumping with the intro track to the album, "Juggernauts".  This track really set the pace for the album. If you are a hip hop head like ourselves, who loves bars, methophors, punchlines, and all that clever goodness. This is definitely an album you want to continue listening to.

.

Fight Back - We really enjoyed the aggression on this track. Both Massaka & AYOK bring the bars as they go back and forth on the beat. The hook has a strong build up, it really pulls you in and connects you to the song itself.  It will leave you with a new sense of motivation.

.

Champion Ft. Ms Nita - "Champion" started out a little slow for us at first. The first verse was solid but was lacking something and just didn't grab our attention right away. It is one of those verses that you have to listen to a few times to fully appreciate. It's importance to the track is only seen after the track has completed.

.

But then the second verse comes in and really pulls this song together and makes you nod your head. The hook was great, it really connects the dots on this one and gives you a strong feeling of what this album is about.

.

Spotlight - "SpotLight" is a key track on the, "Juggernauts" album. This one give you different style  from the first 3 that you just listened too. A real chill beat that allows for the two artists to really go in on it and switch up the flow. Well delivered from beginning to end with a killer hook that will stay stuck in your head long after you have finished listening to the album.

.

Questions - This one will refresh your memory and hip hop history knowledge. The title of the song says it all, "Questions". All the "what if's" that you can think of are noted on this track. It is asking what would it be like if some of the great moments in hip hop never happend such as Travis investing in Tech or DMX never getting hooked on crack. Things that have really affected the community whether it be bad or good.

.

We highly recommend listening to this one. The concept of the track alone is intriquing and we think a lot of the fans more into the underground and independent scene will enjoy it. Props to Re: Verse! It was refreshing hearing something different that really makes you think and appreciate Hip Hop.

.

Legends Never Die  ft. Passionate MC & Andrea Leclaire - Bars! From the beginning to the end of this track they are coming hard with bars and more bars! Andrea Leclaire killed it with her graceful and uplifting sound!

.

The track also featured Passionate MC. If you are a fan of Passionate MC you will appreciate his verse on this one. He didn't hold nothing back and gives one of the most memorable verses on the album.

.

Lost & Found ft. Flawless Real Talk - If you are into songs that paint a picture, this is the one for you. Each artist did their own think to add something valueable to the track and keep the story going. This was well put together with great clarity.

.

A more dark and psychological type song with shock value that will keep you listening wanting to know what happens. Flawless Real Talk contributed a dope verse to  close out, "Lost & Found". A song that you will want to listen to more than once!

.

My Road ft. Ree Dot Ma - The very second this one starts to play it will pull you right in. Ree Dot Ma has a voice that will make you want to sit down and pay attention. The hook is catchy & radio ready!

.

"My Road' is relatable to anyone that has had a dream and worked hard to get to where they want to be and where they are. Everyone has their own path and their own plans of getting their. Re: Verse did great getting the point across and reminding us that, "The road to success, is always under construction."

.

Kind of Funny Ft. Marc Murphy & Rippz - Grind Mode afliates, (Past & Present) Marc Murphy & Rippz, join Re: Verse on, "Kind Of Funny". A more up beat style track that brings to light the haters and fakes that will talk about you behind your back but act like they love you to your face.

.

The chemistry on this track is what gives it replay value. Each artist and verse matched the energy to the previous. A solid one all the way around. #GME

.

Sick & Tired Ft. Big G's - This is one of our least favorite tracks on the album. Not to take anything away from the verses & artists we just were not feeling the beat. And it made it hard to fully capture our attention.

.

Re: Verse however did enough on the beat to keep us listening and Big G's will leave a lasting impression on the listeners whether you agree with us about the beat or not. Either way we do recommend that you listen, everybodies ear is different.

.

Adrenaline - On to the next one, "Adrenaline", is one of our favorite tracks on the whole album. This was a great piece, the hook/bridge helped build this track up. And it will definitely get your "Adrenaline" rushing as you listen. The switch ups and transitions between flows were genuis. Great work!

Nightmares Ft. O - As you might of figured from the title, "Nightmares", has more of a horrorcore vibe going on compared to what you have already listened to. But it is not just your typical horrocore track talking about killing and murding people.

.

The track tells a dark story of someone who may be suffering from a dramatic experience from their past. Someone who struggles with the fear of what comes when you sleep. Metaphorically this one is on another level. Listen to it closely a few times and you will come away with something different each time.

.

We're Here - This is another one where we didn't care much for the beat but this time it didn't even matter. Re: Verse goes off on the track. The lyrical content on this one is enough to keep it a top track on the album.

.

The hook was simple on this one but easy to remember and very catchy. Overall we ended up liking this track a lot. Even if we didn't agree with the beat.

.

We in Grind Mode Ft. Lingo - We are starting to sound like a broken record but another key hook on the album! We loved the upbeat energy on this one. Lingo joins the track and makes it his own with his unique sound.

.

This track was fun and we really enjoyed it. It kept us entertained throughout the whole song and when it ended we wanted more. Great replay value on this one. Must Listen.

.

Grind Mode Cypher LA Vol. 3 - Re: Verse were joined by Ty Banks, Jon Dubb, Curt Sharp, & Johnny Conceptz when they jumped on Vol. 3 of the LA edition of the Grind Mode Cypher. This is the perfect ending to a dope album. AYOK & Massaka stole the show on this cypher. Coming out with a hot start and strong finish to cap it off.

Full Review : The Almighty Foot Clan Vol. 2

Posted by Underground On Top on November 3, 2014 at 7:40 PM Comments comments (0)

.

The Almighty Foot Clan did a great job putting this project together. The lyrical talent that was on the tape is amazing. The quality hurt the ratings a little bit but the lyricists involved helped save it and make it worth the listen! UOT recommends that you check this one out and really give it a try and you will see the potential and talent that we see. They will have so much more to offer us in the future. This is just the start of things.

.

UOT awards this one a Golden Mic for overall lyricism, outstanding delivery, and a great collabertive effort. This project was entertaining from beginning to end. It started out on a strong note and it ended on a strong note. Job well done and we cannot wait to see how much they progress and what they will come out with next!

.

1. Groovy Graveyard - N/A

.

2.Froggy style  - This track kicks off when the beat drops and the flow starts to instantly pull you right into it.. The first verse sets the tone of the track.

.

The next verses keep the lyrical vibe moving.  Great way to start off an album with this one, it will only leave you wanting more. UOT rates it 9/10.

.

3. OK - "OK"  is  very great sounding track. Fun lyrics will keep you entertained on this one. The over all quality brings the track down a little bit. But the wordplay throughout was on point.

.

Overall if the track does a good job of painting a solid picture. Well delivered and the art of the track can be appreciated. UOT rates it 8/10.

.

4. Coaster Booty- This is a UOT favorite off of the album. This one is really for the people who want to kick back and be entertained.  From the first verse on we were one over. The word play is untouchable. Great soung, great beat.

,

The chemisty on the track can truly be appreciated as well. The track is short but mixes real well. Bring up the quality a bit and you have yourself something to hit repeat on! UOT rates it 9/10.

.

5. What Ever You Like - A real feel good track. A real mellow vibe sets the tone. The weed smokers will definitely like this one.

Everyone went in on this one and really impressed. The last verse was our favorite and ended the track on a strong note!

.

The chorus carried this track for us, it was simple, yet very memorable. This is one to put on repeat!. UOT rates it 10/10.

.

6. 2Blunts - This one probably has the best beat on the album. Turn this one up! A true banger all the way around.

.

The hook is catchy and will keep you singing along. A job well done on this one. Have fun and enjoy this one! Next time you hit the club or a party make sure you hit play one time on this one. Another perfect rating of 10/10.

.

7. Tonights The Night - The first verse was kind of hard to understand at the beginning of the track. UOT wishes that it came out a little bit clearer and the audio was turned up. Other than that the lyrical content throughout the track was present and on point.

.

The second verse won us over on this one,  saving the track and keeping it going. UOT rates this one 8/10.

.

8. Living In America - N/A

.

9. Sauce - Next up the album brings us "Sauce". The cool thing about this track is, besides the concept and content, the ladies will love this one. It is a good track all around that both man and woman will enjoy. Another banger, this one really hits!!

.

Production on this one was very calming, something to really chill too. Overall we enjoyed it and rate this track, 8/10.

.

10.  Base Facial - The beat drops in hard on this one, reminding us of some old school sounds. We love it.

.

This is another one in which the production brought down the track but the wordplay saved it. The track give off so much potential. This is one we recommend having remastered and re-released. It can really be a great hit if presented the right way.

.

Overall the song is saying a lot and the lyrics are good. Each verse added in something new and carried the track. A great collaberative effort on this one.The metaphorical abilities throughout are genius! Great listen, UOT rates it 7/10.

.

11. Bitch Ass Rappers - Verse 1 went a little flat to us a couple of times. But the lyrics were good. Overall its an all out call out! The title speaks for itself!

.

We recommend that you listen to this track at least, if you listen to any. Something we think a lot of fans will enjoy.

.

The hook is so simple yet it will get stuck in your head and have you singing along. Nice presence, vibe, and energy. UOT rates it 8/10.

.

12. Screw Dart - This is one that you have to really listen to close to appreciate. Its definitely taking a chance putting this one on with that first verse. It starts off more as a spoken word. People may not connect with the flow at first but if you listen, you will hear the intellectual aspect of it.

.

Second verse came in strong! Very impressed by this one, almost wish it would have been first because it will bring the listener in. The track ends on a strong point as well earning 8/10 from UOT.

.

13. Gummo - This was very entertaining from the get go. The quality makes it kind of hard to initially get through but hang in there and you will forget about the quality after listening to the firsttwo verses. Fire lyrics, props on this one! 8/10.

.

14. Stay Inside Pussy- Really enjoyed this one from beginning to end! The best thing about this track is the MC's give off a real aspect of hip hop. Its believable what they are saying. Great one! UOT rates it 8/10.

.

15. Jetmoto - Great word play and the abilities on the mic on this  make this one a solid listen from beginning to end. Another solid choice of instrumental.

.

They are really just having fun on this one. That is something we can appreciate. Again the song paints a good picture as we listen. 9/10 bars for days.

.

16. Quit it (chill bro) - "Quit It" reminds us of something that would have been popular in the early 2000's. We love the style, a solid beat and a cool hook. This one would make a dope cypher!

.

Middle verse went the hardest but the second to last verse did bring the rating down. Wish it would have came a little more strong in the delivery. UOT rating of 7/10.

.

17. Black Out er naw - Another mellow one with a chill vibe. We really enjoyed it and give it a perfect rating of 10/10.

.

18. Cheap Yak - The 1st verse went off on this one! Wow, great word play. The lyrical abilities of these artists is something to really get into. There is more than enough talent to make any hop hop head a fan!

.

Overall it was a solid track. The beat was basic but it got the job done. 9/10 rating.

.

19. Foot Steps - Had a hard time vibing to this one because the sound quality. The beat however, was pretty solid. The track comes off as a freestyle.

.

This is one who will have to playback two or three times. The first time listening was a bit difficult because the production was distracting and pulled us away from simply, listening. Rate it 7/10.

.

20. Crime Bus - A great way to end this project! This was a solid track from the beginning to end. Definitely a top 3 track on the whole tape.

.

Review: N'Sayne - No Windows

Posted by Underground On Top on October 6, 2014 at 8:10 PM Comments comments (0)

.

"No Windows" is a great album! So much diversity and soul went into making this one happen. Each track brought something different and providing something for all music lovers to appreciate and enjoy. We recommend this album to any of our followers and supporters.

.

The album itself borders on the lines of being mainstream and underground. And we mean that as a compliment. "No Windows", can be played to the mainstream audience as well as the underground audience and it would still get the same response and the same amount of love. Being able to take your originality and love for music and put it into one album is something great. N'Sayne should be proud of this one, he really made us into true fans! With the right listeners, who knows how big this one can get!

.

1. The Last FIfth (skit) 01:43 - N/A

.

2. Back of the Whip feat. Finesse 04:16 - This is the first initial track on, "No Windows. The first verse sets the tone for the song the second it kicks in. The hard, chopper like, style really 2on us over on this one. At times the flow resembles that of Busta Rhymes.

.

We did not really care for the hook, it was a bit odd and hard to understand for us. The second verse starts off with a more mellow vibe but soon goes back to the style of verse one. This verse really shows off and compliments the lyrical abilities of the artist. The featured artist was a good add on the track as well. The artists had good chemestry making for an overall solid track.

.

UOT rates this 8/10--

3. Wild 03:57 - One of our favorite beats on the whole album. This one really hits, everything from the verses to the hook to the harmonizing is on point.

.

Turn this one up and let it bang, very complete track and UOT rates it a perfect 10/10.

4. After Party 04:08 - This brings us a little change of pace to the album. A mellow, but solid flow and delivery will leave you vibing out to this one.  N'Sayne shows us that he can be a diverse artist and shows us all sides of him as a rapper.

.

Good beat selection and a well put together concept/track idea. A must listen for anyone looking to relax and chill out. UOT rates this one a 9/10.

5. The Ruthven Pursuit 03:15 -  The female vocals were really spot on for this one and she carried the track. A soft approach taken by N'Sayne was appreciated but we could not really connect on this one.

.

We still recommend that you check it out and take a listen. Personally it is just not our cup of tea but we expect that others will enjoy it. UOT Rates this one 7/10.

6. I Just Wanna Make My Mama Proud (skit) 01:56 - N/A

7. Circle feat. K-Outlaw 06:10 - "Circle" pulled us right back in. The energy on this one was really felt. Very entertaining track that UOT really ejoyed.

.

A strong closing on this track helped push it to a perfect 10/10 rating by UOT. A top 3 song and a recommended listen! Check it out and do not sleep on this one!

8. Purple Jelly feat. Lady Mack and Elijah Waan 04:51 - It is good to hear a female artist get some shine! Lady Mack took this track over and made it her own. Much respect to her, the word play was great.

.

Another very entertaining track with an interesting sound and beat. The third verse was probaby the weak link but we say that lightly. They all did their thing but the third verse was just not on the same level lyrically in our opinion. Overall, good track! UOT rates it 9/10.

9. Straps & 808s (skit) 01:59 - N/A

10. Nayella Red 05:42 - The vibe on this one has an amazing feel. We have all been there, that moment when we truly miss someone or something. The song itself can be relatable to anyone.

.

A great concept, hip hop at its finest. If you consider yourself a lover and not a fighter, this one is for you. A song we could really hear getting radio play. Turn it up, sit back, and enjoy! 10/10 rating.

11. Perfume & Cologne 03:43 - The vocals were great! "Perfume & Cologne" shows the level of talent of the artist. Well put together track with an amazing sound!

.

Another one we can see being played on TV! A visual track that paints a picture as you listen to it. Another great listen! UOT rating of 8/10!

12. Nature Song/BLK WNTR 06:53 - The album keeps getting better! Another track that kept us fully entertained! One for music lovers of all genres! Job well done on this one! Vocals sound amazing! Wow, 10/10 rating.

13. Blackest Rose feat. Ben Schuller 04:30 - Ben Schuller is the man! He did an amazing job on this. This was our favorite collab on the whole album. These two work together so well we would love to hear more!

.

Ben Schuller definitely carried this track making it an easy one to remember and sing along with! Release this one as a single and the listeners will love it! Bordering between an underground and mainstream sound, a must listen for all hip hop heads! Another 10/10 rating!

14. theRAPy 03:56 - A very strong presense on the mic makes for an intense listen. One of the realest track not only on the album but one that we have heard recently.

.

The lyrics are strong and heart felt. A motivational track if anything, the emotion runs deep with this one. Something we woud love seeing Irv Da Phenom jumping on. Well done, 9/10.

15. Angel Button feat. Shemy 03:57 - N'Sayne goes off on this one! This was a fun listen that will generate a postive vibe! Get down and play this one at the next party or when you just simply want to jam out!

.

Hype track from the beginning to end with a great beat! Everyone will have a good time with this one! 8/10 rating. The featured artist did a great job!

16. Timeless 04:44 -  We think the underground community would enjoy this song more than any other one on the album. Such a good presence on the mic, well thought out and put together.

.

The hook is great, it made this song worth putting on repeat. Not to take anything away from the verses but when a hook is on it is on. 9/10.

.

17. Ignore My Thoughts 2 (Thank God) - A great way to close out a solid album. Nothing better than an artist letting his mind speak through his music. We end this one on a perfect note. 10/10.

Review: The Prequel By Shneal

Posted by Underground On Top on May 13, 2014 at 4:05 PM Comments comments (1)

.

The Prequel was a nice listen. Shneal shows a lot of potential. Just by listening to, "The Prequel", from beginning to end, you will realize how much the artist has grown and developed. He has a clear clean flow and kept us thoroughly entertained throughout. UOT awards him The Golden Mic for growth, consistency, and a lyrical genius as good as any.

.

Make sure to follow the links at the bottom of the page to check it out for yourself! A must listen from beginning to end, a little something for everyone. UOT!

.

1. Universal - The Prequel starts off with, "Universal".  A great intro track to get us right into things.

.

Shneal builds his flow throughout the song. It  really complimented a solid beat and the overall production. Great message and memorable hook!  Word play was on point, especially during the last verse, the MC goes off!

.

First impressions are very important in the music industry. And he left a good impression on us. UOT rates this one, 8/10.

.

2. Feat J Cutlass - Pride of a Lion - Another solid track, overall production could use a little tweeking. At parts, it was as if the mixing was off, dumbing down the quality just a bit.

.

The lyrics were well written, another good message, and an on point flow. The track feature had a unique sound and made for a good collab. Taking the track over and making it his own. UOT rates this one, 7/10.

.

3. Being Alice - The beat on this one is awesome. From the instant you hit play, you are pulled into the song. The beat builds up as Shneal joins in with a clean flow. Not before long, the bass drops and the song is a hit!

.

There were some minor production issues with sound levels. But it was nothing major, just something to think about.

.

The second verse really won the track over. Great work! Love the Alice In Wonderland concept.  9/10.

.

4. Safe Investment - Shneal comes out chopping from the beginning! UOT really enjoyed the energy on this track. It was enjoyable, well delivered.

.

Nice hook, catchy, and easy to remember. The wordplay throughout was appreciated. A must listen! UOT rates it 9/10.

.

5. Now We're Here - Another dope beat! A chill banger for the music lovers who just want to relax and enjoy the vibe.

.

The vocals on the hook are a little sharp. But they are bearable. Keep working on improving those!

.

All in all, the lyrical ability of the artist, owned this track. 8/10.

.

6. Eye Candy - The delivery on this one was oh so sweet. A great story telling track for the visual listeners out there.

.

The hook is well written. But again, the vocals just need some tuning. UOT rates it 9/10.

.

7. Feat Drama AKA Treason - The Remedy - Another banger beat! Turn this one up! Shneal comes in heavy with a solid delivery. Great metaphors and an ok hook.

.

The track feature was a nice addition. Good chemistry and good vibes. UOT rates it 8/10.

.

8. Feat Drama AKA Treason - Konspiracy - The delivery was a little off to start this one off. We enjoyed the energy but we believe it took away from the performance a little bit.

.

The hook is short and simple. But in a good way. The next verse was the exact opposite of the first. It carried the track. Not bad. But compared to other tracks on this project, not the best. Overall, 7/10.

.

9. Inspire Me - A UOT favorite! Great work all around on this one. The message, the flow, the delivery, the hook, production, it was all solid. Could this track be improved? Yes, it could. But it was presented perfectly, overcoming any flaws. UOT give this one a perfect rating. 10/10. This is how you sell a track.

.

10. Feat Cryptic Wisdom - Automatic - Cryptic Wisdom was the best feature on "The Prequel." A great collab all around. The two artists complimented one another well.

.

Shneal does great with the rock style vibe. But the recording quality is not that great. If it wasn't for that, this would be another perfect rating. 8/10.

.

11. One Night - Every album, mixtape, EP, etc. needs a track like this one. It shows the diversity of the artist and helps reach different types of music fans.

.

Well played, UOT really enjoyed this one. 10/10

.

12. Dominoes - A good way to end off a good project. We really appreciate the message of this one. I think it would be one that lots of listeners and other artists could relate to.

.

Love the emotion. Well done! Make sure to check out the links below and become a fan! UOT rates this one 10/10.

Review: Painting Pictures Mixtape - Braidz

Posted by Underground On Top on April 10, 2014 at 10:00 PM Comments comments (0)

.

Overall "Painting Pictures" was a fairly solid mixtape that we at UOT, definitely enjoyed. At times it was a bit hard to make out the lyrics but overall the sound quality of the tape was great. It is a must listen from beginning to end, how you feel about it after you are done? That could go either way but it is worth the listen. Give Braidz a chance and really listen to the stories he paints for you and you will begin to understand him as an artist.

.

Make sure to follow the links below to get the tape for yourself!

.

Til My Voicebox Breaks (feat. Breeze) - Braidz has a nice flow that compliments the beat on this one. You can definitely tell that he is passionate about what he does. The aggression brought in the second verse was really heard with a  solid song concept.

.

The hook took the song over for us. Amazing sound which helped carry this track from beginning to end. Overall UOT rates it 8/10.

.

Break Free (feat. Davilligo) - UOT had a hard time understanding the lyrics during the first verse of this one. Braidz came with a good flow we just recommend working on the pronunciation. All in all a really solid track.

.

Again the hook won the track over with the soothing vocals of Davilligo. UOT Rates this track 7/10.

.

Stand For The Clan feat. Siege-A of Velvet Sand - From the beginning the energy on this one was on point. Production, engineering, and a banger beat made it an even better listen.

.

The track feature did a great job selling the track and doing it justice. Turn this one up and hit repeat. UOT rates it 9/10.

.

Can't Stay Here - Who remembers the laid back sounds of Semisonic with their 90s hit, "Closing Time"? Braidz puts out a sampled version of his own with, "Can't Stay Here".  A well put together track and a great approach bringing back the 90's.

.

This one went down as a UOT favorite off of the "Painting Pictures" mixtape. UOT give this one a perfect rating of 10/10.

.

Take Nothin' From Me (feat. Official Jae) - Braidz shows off a softer side with, "Take Nothin' From Me". Braidz paints a picture for the listener, creating an amazing story through lyric. Job well done.

.

This was one of our favorite beats on the tape with Official Jae doing the track justice. UOT rates it 9/10.

.

Days Ahead (feat. Dicky & J Space) - UOT really enjoyed the first verse on this one. The upbeat feel of this track is one to move your head too.

.

The track features did not do this track justice for us. The first verse was a quality one but the song lost a couple points with the second and third verses. The delivery on both were lacking for our ears.  UOT rates it 6/10.

.

Morons (feat. Jacob Price & Fuze) - The production schemes on this track really helped push it along. The sound engineering was on point but the track started out kind of weak. But as the track goes on it really builds and finishes off strong!

.

We love the concept of this one with an almost perfect hook if it hadn't sounded a bit off pitch. Overall it is a solid track and worth the listen. UOT rates it 7/10.

.

Evil People (My Revenge) - The eerie sounding beat, the vocals, all make this a must listen! Great track, great sound, great all around. Once again Braidz tells us a story through his music. Props on this one! Perfect rating of 10/10.

.

Rule The World - Braidz accent made this one hard to understand at certain parts but nothing too major. Other than that the metaphoric flow carried this one along. UOT does like the vibe of this one as well, takes us back to a simpler time in hip hop. 8/10.

.

Painting Pictures - This self titled track lived up to its name as words are turned into pictures. Close your eyes and really enjoy this one. Braidz takes us more into his personal life and really opens up to the listener leaving everything out there. Much respect to him. 9/10.

.

Bring Me Down - This is one we think that a lot of people can relate to. Keep pushing forward and do not let anything bring you down! During the last verse Braidz starts to gas on the beat! Make sure you take a listen.

.

The positive message is something that we really appreciate as fans. UOT rates it 9/10.

.

Gotta Get Away - We end our review with, "Gotta Get Away". A feel good jam with a true oldies sound. Good energy really makes this one fun to listen to. Another one people can relate with. UOT rates it 8/10.

Underground On Top

Review: Ace the Prophet - The Free Music LP

Posted by Underground On Top on January 27, 2014 at 1:50 AM Comments comments (0)

 .

1/2 of the money raised by "The Free Music LP" will be donated to CMJ's "Rap For Life" Movement raising awareness and money for suicide prevention! And the other 1/2 goes to Sprai Apparel for their kickstarter campaign.

.

"The Free Music LP" was a bit different than what we are use to hearing here at UOT. Very mellow vibes throughout most of the album make this one something you can really enjoy and relax to. UOT awards it the Golden Mic for lyrical abilities, outstanding delivery, and the raw realness that we miss so much sometimes. The only downside to the album were a couple track features. Although the features were not bad, they just didn't live up to the tracks that they were on. Make sure to follow the links below to get it for yourself! A UOT recommended and must listen!

1. Free Music (Intro) - "The Free Music" LP intro starts off by giving you a little taste of what you are in for as you listen to this 18 track album. Ace the Prophet gives you a brief sample of what he is about as he builds the anticipation for the rest of the LP. "All that I really want to do is free music."

2. If I Could ft. Haiku - "If I Could" is a meaningful track that brings us a great message about what hip hop has become and what is shouldn't be. Very heartfelt lyrics make this one a must listen!

.

A soothing hook helps moves this one along with the sound of the genuine lyrics as we head into the third verse where the track starts to really heat up. Listen closely to this one for a real understanding of the song. UOT rates it 8/10.

3. Sincerely, Anonymous - Ace the Prophet does this next track poetic justice. Poetry is a beautiful part of hip hop that is often forgotten or left out of "rap" but was well captured here.

.

Ace the Prophet shows off his passion for hip hop and his lyrical ability to really create a vivid picture in the minds of the listeners. UOT rates this one 9/10!

4. Remember Me ft. Roc Flair - The first verse really sent a strong message across to us. The flow is slowly built up into a chopper like style which really won our ears over.

.

Production on this one was on point with a calming beat that really complimented ATP's flow. The track feature was a decent one but it brings the track down a bit. The lyrical ability and lyrics for the track feature were there but the flow did not react well with the overall production and flow of ATP like we had hoped. Overall a solid with a rating of 7/10.

5. Live From The Underground ft. Christopher Michael Jensen and RJDJ - This one brings us a more upbeat style and beat. It was much appreciated as we are now 5 tracks into this album.

.

The second verse matched the style of the track perfectly and transitioned smoothly into the well performed hook which helped this song shine. The hook is memorable and catchy which always makes for a great play.

.

RJDJ did a decent job but the production just was not there for us. UOT rates this one, 8/10.

6. Intolerance ft. Black Atticus - A deep and much needed track. This is a good example of what hip hop needs back. The lyrical content was impressive and brings a real aspect back to rap that too often is lacking.

.

Great hook! The harmony was fantastic and created a BTNH type vibe. Good job on this one! UOT gives it a rating of 10/10.

7. Blank CDs and Sharpies - Which underground artist cannot relate to "Blank CDs and Sharpies?" Such a well placed titled track with a concept that is very relatable. A must listen for anyone on the come up!

.

The metaphoric meaning behind this track is dope. The struggle of the underground is real! Music is music, and if its good, it deserves to be played, even if it is burned onto a blank cd and titled with a sharpie. Much respect! Rated 9/10.

8. We'll All Be Fine - You can really feel the emotion put into this one. The hook is a bit pitchy but the artist is able to make an emotional connection with the listener through the passionate sound of his delivery.

.

The production schemes are what really carried this track and make it worth listening. UOT rates it 8/10.

.

9. Just Can't Stop - Throwback with the sounds of, "Just Cant Stop." This is a really fun track and a good listen.

.

Very simple song but simple is not always bad if you know how to deliver it. And this was a well delivered track. Second verse took the track over and earned a rating of 9/10!

10. It Was Cool - The beat carries this one. Another old school feel that takes us back to the 90's with the vibes that are being given out. UOT really enjoyed this one and appreciates that feel good music!

.

The production on this track makes us think of some classic East Coast projects with a really clean and crisp sound. 8/10.

11. The Call (Trilogy of Fame Intro) - The story telling of this one is great! This song puts the hip hop dream into perspective in two minutes! This is a must listen for any rapper that puts their heart into this music and is constantly shut down because it does not meet the mainstream expectations.

.

Well played, UOT gives it a perfect rating of 10/10. One of the realest tracks on this whole album.

12. Trilogy of Fame - The flow throughout this one is incredible. Well used metaphors and a on point delivery helps you through as you listen to the phases of fame.

.

Great song concept! The artist did a great job of taking the struggle of making it and putting it into song. A great mind has to think of this one, UOT rates it perfect, 10/10.

13. Throwback Radio ft. Johnny WordsWrite and Mic Justice - This was a real stab at what radio really has become, unbearable. There is nothing like the throwback radio, and I think we can all agree on that one.

.

This was one of UOT's top picks, the first verse was killing the beat but the second verse looses a couple points. All in all another appreciated concept. UOT rates it, 8/10.

14. I Don't Care (If You Don't Like Me) ft. Stogie La Russa - This track showcases the best hook on the whole album. The hook alone will make you want to hit repeat on it! The verses were well played and both came hard.

.

A solid and a must listen! The chemistry on this track makes for a great play. UOT rates it 9/10! A UOT favorite.

15. Set Me Free - Our only complaint about this one is that it was not long enough! You know a great track when it leaves you wanting more! Really hoped for one more verse, Nice work! We will make this short and give it a perfect rating of 10/10!

16. Once - The lyrical wordplay on this one was good and the style of the flow really showcases the talents of ATP.

.

We were not really feeling the beat on this one but the words did win us over. The mellow setting is something that you can relax to and just realyy enjoy. Not a bad one at all none the less. It receives a UOT rating of 8/10.

17. Remember Me (Remix) ft. Skee Tha Menace and Treezon - This one starts out hard from the beginning as the beat drops and pulls you right in! A more up tempo style makes this one enjoyable.

.

Great track features, they compliment one another nicely on this one and we hope to see more collabs together in the future. 9/10.

18. Wicked Games (Remix) - The Free Music LP ends on a perfect note with, "Wicked Games". ATP goes out with a bang and finishes strong as UOT rates this one perfect, yet again, 10/10,

Review: Faction - Supporters As Well As Performers

Posted by Underground On Top on January 9, 2014 at 2:05 AM Comments comments (0)

.

"Supporters As Well As Performers" is an instant classic on the playlists of UOT. One of the most inspirational, moving, pieces of art that you will hear all year. The Duo held nothing back as they go bar for bar bringing a reality back to hip hop that is too often missing. Amazing features by Brandi Muniz and Mia DiPalma help make this album great! Underground On Top give Faction the Golden Mic for outstanding production, sound quality, Lyrical ability, and overall greatness. Make sure to pick up your copy on February 14th, 2014 when the album officially releases! A must have that will keep you wanting more from beginning to end.

.

1. Introduction - N/A

.

2. Makin moves - This track kicks off when the beat drops and the hook starts in instantly pulling you right into it.

.

The first verse really sets the bar of what we should expect to hear from this album. The artist rips through the beat showing off his lyrical word play.

,

The hook is catchy and memorable as it leads right into the next verse. The 2nd verse keeps the inspirational vibe moving. "Fuck mainstream and if I make it there, imma change the scene, just wait and see." Faction knows how to start off an album right with this one, it will only leave you wanting more. UOT rates it 9/10.

.

3. No Contest - "No Contest" is the track entry for the, "Music Is Competition" contest in which they placed in the top 3. A very great sounding track which can be relatable to anybody trying to make it in this music business.

.

Faction kills the completion with words creating a genre of hip hop that you cannot label as just underground nor mainstream, it is music for everyone bringing the art of hip hop back to reality. UOT rates this a 9/10.

.

4. Jealousy In You ft Brandi Muniz - This is a UOT favorite off of the album. This one is really for the people who will try to bring you down in this world. Faction holds nothing back as they let their emotions bleed through the mic. We all have people who doubt us in life, we just have to overcome that.

,

Faction has created something to help that process with this one. "This is Faction, no actin." They are who they are and did an amazing job painting the picture to this track. A great message for anyone who is struggling in life.

.

Brandi Muniz helped move this song along with her beautiful vocals making it something to really vibe too. UOT rates it perfect with a 10/10.

.

5. Cold War - "Cold War" can be interpreted as a battle between the listener and their personal demons. It is a cold world that we live in and Faction knows more than anybody that the struggle for life is real.

.

The two take you through their own struggles and let you know that it is ok and there are ways to overcome. Once again it is another very inspirational track on the album. We all have times when we want to give up but we have to keep pushing forward.

.

The chorus carried this track for us, it was simple, yet very powerful. This is one to put on repeat when life has you down. UOT rates it 10/10.

.

6. Shmackdown! - Faction starts us off with some oldies sounding music before they really go off on the mic. This a straight school yard banger, similar to the hardcore tracks of the 90's.

.

Both artists match one another lyrically as they spit bar for bar! This is straight fight music! The word play throughout the track was on another level, the hard hitting beat really gets you feeling this one. Make sure you turn it all the way up! UOT Rates it a 9/10!

.

We would've liked to hear one more verse combined of the two artists going back and forth, but that is just us. Great jam!

.

7. I'm Alright ft. Mia DiPalma - A lot of emotion can be felt on this one. This track is sincere and with every lyric spit, every word spoke, you can tell that the two connect with their music as much as the listener will.

.

The great thing about Faction is they are very relatable. This track is a perfect example of that. They are not just some hip hop group rapping unrealistic nonsense. They are speaking real life, and to people like us at UOT, that is very important.

.

The second verse won us over on this one, "hip hop has saved my life so I wont regret when it takes my life." UOT rates this one 8/10.

.

8. Car Ride (Skit) - N/A

.

9. Supporters As Well As Performers - Next up faction brings us the self titled track, "Supporters As Well As Performers." This hip hop thing means more to them than just fame and money. Hip hop is their portal of life, they love hip hop as much as any other fan. They are more than just artists, and that is something great.

.

Production on this one was very calming, something to really chill too. Overall we enjoyed it and rate this track, 8/10.

.

10. It's My Life - The beat drops in hard on this one, reminding us of some old school Slim Shady sounds. Another track with a strong message. Faction is not taking no BS from anyone. They will do what they want and make music the way that they want to.

.

Earlier in the review we said that Faction cannot be labeled solely as Underground or mainstream. This song is a perfect example of why that is true. They will not conform to what anybody wants or things that will get them play.

.

Overall the song has top notch production and sound schemes with one of the best beats on the whole album. The metaphorical abilities of the two are genius! Great listen, UOT rates it a perfect 10/10.

.

11. OverCome - This one really hits at home with us. The smooth sounds of the guitar really set the vibe. Faction mentions time after time that they strive to help people. This is a track that really has helped me, the owner of UOT, overcome a lot of emotions in my life.

.

We recommend that you listen to this track at least, if you listen to any. A great song with a power chorus that really will uplift your spirit!

.

Faction is killing the game on a whole other level! One of the most powerful, inspirational, duos in the game. Do not sleep on this track. UOT rates this a perfect 10/10.

.

12. Livin' A Lie ft. Brandi Muniz - Another great production scheme on this one. The first verse of this track gave us shivers as we really got pulled into it. We have all hid something at some point in our lives. If you listen to this one, and you don't relate to it, you are living a lie.

.

Brandi Muniz blesses the track once again with her beautiful vocals which really brought this song to a full circle.

.

The next verse does just as much as the first for us, you have to just be you and live your life. The two can really touch hearts with their words. A solid track through and through, UOT rates this one 10/10.

.

13. My conscious & I - This is what we have been waiting for all album! The two artists going back and forth on the verses! Well played and delivered as he battles back and forth with his conscious.

.

The raw emotion was real on this one, in this case his conscious was trying to help him overcome the struggles in life. Sometimes you have to take a second to listen to your own self and think rationally. UOT rates this one 10/10.

.

14. Fell In Love With A Ghost ft. Mia DiPalmer - Very deep track with a much stronger meaning that you may not hear the first time around. Listen to this one a few times before really interpreting.

.

Mia DiPalmer once again, helped carry this track with her amazing sound. Very touching vocals.

.

Everyone has been through heartbreak in live in one form or another. Let this song and Faction be your medication. Great one! UOT rates it 8/10.

.

15. Venting - Great word play and the abilities on the mic by the two make this one a solid listen from beginning to end. Vent! Get it out! Great song, bringing a realness back to hip hop that is too often missing.

.

Another great hook, simple yet says a whole lot. UOT rates this one 9/10. MUST LISTEN!

.

16. I'm sorry ft. Brandi Muniz - A perfect way to end out the album. An apologetic track to all of those that have gone through the hard times with the duo.

.

We were glad to see Brandi Muniz on another track to help close this one out. Make it or not, Faction has created a classic with this one. UOT rates it with a perfect score of 10/10.

Review: Atesh - Father Rhymes

Posted by Underground On Top on December 27, 2013 at 7:25 PM Comments comments (0)

.

Atesh is definitely a talented young artist with a lyrical skill as good as many. "Father Rhymes" was a rock heavy sampled mixtape that ended up being pretty enjoyable. Being able to hear some of the classic rock track that we grew up on remixed into a hip hop track is intriguing and definitely grabbed our attention.

.

The one thing that the mixtape lagged on was sound quality and overall production. The sound itself may be off putting to some but for those who will truly listen to the lyrics themselves. You might find out that you like it.

.

1. Intro Black Polished Chrome - Not a bad intro to start of the, "Father Rhymes" mixtape. Sampling a rock beat to set the tone for the tape.

.

2. TNT - Next Atesh samples the rock classic "TNT". The first verse was a little bit rushed, we would say to slow down and enjoy the track for itself.

2nd verse was also a little rushed but the word play was on point, production may drag this track down a bit but the lyrical ability is there.

.

3. Purple Haze - One of the most well known songs in the hip hop and rock worlds. Again Atesh shows off his lyrical abilities and his talents as a writer.

.

Once he finds a solid engineer and gets some quality equipment, he can really make some hits.

.

4. Straight Jacket - This one was almost like a spoken word track. Which actually benefits Atesh. This one shows off the poetic and moral side of the artist. The message is very strong and you can feel the emotions behind the lyrics. Keep hip hop real.

.

5. Wish You Were Here - Atesh shows off a softer side or his artistry. Strong lyrics and decent delivery makes this one a solid track.

.

At time the bars were not landed as clean as they could've been, but the flow was pretty smooth on this one. minus the obvious production issues this is one of UOT's favorite.

.

6. Kickin' It Old School - Who doesn't like to kick it old school? Atesh is taking it back to the late 80s with this one! Good sound, good vibe, nice flow, and decent delivery.

.

All in all Atesh stuck to the topic at hand, "old school". This one definitely give off the old school feel and was well landed.

.

7. It's My Life - Atesh comes out ripping through the rock sample with a more aggressive side on the mic. "It's My Life" is a cult classic song, when one attempts to master it they must bring their A game to the table. Atesh definitely brought his heart on this one with the lyrical ability to match. The only issue is the sound quality dumbs it down a bit.

.

Over all, solid job on this one. Based on just lyrics and flow, its a good listen. One that a lot of other aspiring rappers can relate too.

.

8. Scar Tissue - We really connected with this one. Atesh really stepped it up on this one, the delivery is at its best and the message was well landed.

.

The flow matched the sample nicely creating a great listen. Make sure not to sleep on this one, shows off the MCs overall abilities.

.

9. Room and Bored - Taking a jab at the education system with this one. A strong political meaning that some may find interesting. Make sure to take a listen, nice word play and strong metaphors.

.

10. Another One Bites The Dust - The multi-syllables came out on this one! Bars on bars, nicely delivered.

.

11. Heart Breaker - Strong way to end this rock sampled mixtape. Atesh brings a more chill flow to start us out with but ends stronger as he allows for the instrumental and his aggression on the mic to build. Make sure to listen and download for yourself in the link below!

Review: Wash The Throne EP - AVN & King K.O.N.G.

Posted by Underground On Top on November 26, 2013 at 6:40 PM Comments comments (0)

.

"Wash The Throne" gives us a great EP with the diversity to create something for all music lovers. The production was very strong and helped earn this EP the Golden Mic from UOT. The obvious differences between the two artists mashed well creating a unique style of Hip Hop all in its own.

.

Make sure to follow the links below to check it out for yourself! Do not sleep on this one, a fun listen for anyone.

.

1. Universal:   AVN & King K.O.N.G. start of the "Wash The Throne" EP on a very strong note. The story telling abilities of the two is refreshing.

.

Verse one brought us real Hip Hop at its finest with an old school style of flow to move it along nicely. Verse two kicks in the finish out the opening track with a similar old school feel to it, yet, very different sound at the same time.

.

A lot of soul was felt throughout with a great production scheme. UOT rates this one 8/10.

.

2. Tijuana: A well played beat gets this one started as the two MCs feed off of one anothers energy as they rip through the track.   AVN & King K.O.N.G are so diverse that they make for a great pair. Genius way of mixing the traditional Mexican sound with a new age Hip Hop sound.

.

The hook helped carry this track, very catchy, fun, and memorable. One for all music heads to check out who just want to have a good time. UOT rates this one 8/10.

.

3. Dark Light:  AVN & King K.O.N.G. bring reality to life with "Dark Light". Great flow and delivery by the two make this one worth listening more than once.

.

Verse one comes in so calm you kind of get put into a trance as you listen, relating to the lyrics as they connect to the world around us. The hook creates a strong transition into the second verse which is a little bit more complex with the word play.

.

Overall a solid track that is great on the listening ears. UOT rates this one 9/10.

.

4.  The Wall:  AVN & King K.O.N.G. bring out a jazzy type of blues sounding beat with "The Wall". The lyrical word play is matched by the two as they bring us into their relaxing atmosphere. All we can say about this one is to sit back, relax, and enjoy. UOT Rates this one perfect 10/10.

.

5.  Beggin You Please: The start of Verse one was very clean and punctuation was well on point. An oldies type of feel with a great beat pulled us into this one from the jump start. The sampling and vocals mixed into the track were greatly placed, nice smooth sound.

.

Overall the two really took this one and made it into their own, unique, sound. Mixing was a bit off but nothing too noticeable. UOT rates it 8/10.

.

6.  When Will It End?:  AVN & King K.O.N.G. finish off the EP on a good note. This EP has really taken us back to the 90s, 80s, 70, 60s, and 50s. "When Will It End" has an amazing sound and hook that really won us over.

.

This was our favorite track on the EP earning itself a perfect rating of 10/10.
